Daytime Meteor Showers


Meteor showers do not encounter only at night but also at daytime. Radio and Radar observations caught daytime meteor showes. Since this project data were provided by forward-scattering, it is impossible to know which meteor showers are caught. On the other hand, however, it is possible to catch inreases of meteor echoes. Radio Meteor Observation (forward scatttering) is cauhgt some daytime meteor showers.

Capricornids/Sagittariids

Very weak and wide activities were sometimes observed. But this activity is not clear. It has a possibility to see small activity after calculate many worldwide radio data. Although some papers in '70 were published, this meteor shower is not clear after that.

April Piscids

April Piscids shows activity at the end of April. Recently, this meteor shower was reported by CMORs (Brown et al. 2008). Some radio observers reported to International Meteor Organization(IMO).

Southern ω-Cetids

As same as Southern Northern ω-Cetids, ω-Cetids comes after η-Aquariids maximum. Long term activity during the period 2006-2019 shows low activity level with maximum solar longitude λ=49°.5 under separating two compornents.

Although this meteor shower comes after η-Aquariids maximum, the ativity level is too weak and there is not enough records. It is possible to see a very weak activity with the peak at λ48°.5 using worldwide radio meteor observations.

May Arietids

Although this meteor shower is senn from the middle of May to the end of May, there is no records and radio meteor observation did not catch clear activities.

ο-Cetids

ο-Cetids shows a activity from the middle of May to June. Although Meteor Data Center published by International Astronomical Union (IAU) also records "ο-Cetids Complex", there is not enough record and information. Although the activity level was recorded as "Medium", recent reseults were recorded as "Low". Radio Meteor Observation in the world does not catch a clear activity since 2006.

Arietids

Arietids is the most famous and biggest meteor showers in daytime meteor showers. There are a lot of observed records and data. In addition, it is possible to catch video or visual meteor observation before sun-rise. Although the max date is λ=76°.7(Jun.7) by International Meteor Organization, some peak dates are publishd by some papers. The number of meteor echoes increase from 1st June, the maximum comes around 8th-10th June.

This project caught clear activity profiles during the period 2006-2019. The number of meteor echoes increases from λ=72°. During the maximum period, ζ-Perseids comes same time. ζ-Perseids

ζ-Perseids comes at same period of Daytime Arietids. Since Radio Meteor Observation (forward scattering) is impossble to separate meteor showers, this project adopts the separation with two compornents. Although International Meteor Organization (IMO) publishes follwoing information, other papers say different activity profiles. For example, IMO is λ=78°.6, one paper says λ=83°.5(Jun.14). This project is also later peak time than IMO.

β-Taurids comes around the end of June (solar longitude:λ=96°.7) by the international Meteor Organization. There are a few reports recently. Almost of records were observed in 1940s-1970s. Although this project analyzed data with during the period for 2006-2019, there are no clear β-Taurids activity.

Sextantids

Tne maximum of Sextantids comes around the end of September (λ=184°.3) by International Meteor Organization. In 1999, the strong activity was recorded. This project also caught this small activity in almost of years. Its peak time was estimated at λ=188°.8 (Oct.2). It is later than IMO records. CMOR results are estimated at λ=187°.5.
