Radio Meteor Observations in the World: Monthly Report in October 2016


Three topics were observed by worldwide radio meteor observations in October 2016.

The possibility of activity of October Camelopardalids was predicted by some researchers. One of them, Mikiya Sato predicted this activity that was 14:49(UT) on 5th October (λo192°.564).
As a result, worldwide radio meteor observers caught a small clear activity. This activity was very narrow activity with FWHM=1.5hours. The activity graph is following. The peak time was 14:00-15:00(UT) on 5th October (λo=192°.551). The peak activity level was 0.72 ± 0.38.

The estimated activity profile using Lorentz Profile had 0.7 activity level peak at 14:30(UT) on 5th October(λo192°.551). The FWHM was -1.0 / + 0.5 (hours). This increase activity was observed at almost observaing stations. Mr.Hirofumi Sugimoto in Japan was calculated the estimated visual ZHR using this activity level. The next topic was October Draconids. This showed high activities in 2011 and 2012. After that, there was no unusual activity in 2013-2015. In 2016, the outburst was not predicted.
As a result, worldwide radio meteor observers confirmed that there was no unusual activity. The activity graph was following. The detail result also shows October Draconids 2016.

The last topic was Orionids. In 2006 and 2007, higher Orionid activities were observed in the world. In recent years, however, there was no clear activity.
As a result in 2016, worldwide radio meteor observers confirmed that there was no unusual activity although the small increase was observed. The activity graph was following. The detail result also shows Orionids 2016 page. The estimated activity profile had 0.3 activity level peak at around 0h(UT) on 22nd October(λo208°.81). The activity level 0.3 means the usual activity level as same as non-meteor shower activity.

Radio Meteor Observation is difficult to catch the datail Orionid activity structer because a geocentric velocity of Orionids was too first. Radio Meteor Observation is therefore diffiuclt to catch a clear aactivity in the case of less than visual ZHR=30(in case of Orionids).
Mr.Hirofumi Sugimoto in Japan was calculated the estimated visual ZHR using this activity level. It was possible to check on his website as following.

Besides of these topics, the following graph showes the monitord result (using ONLY Japanese staions) in October.

Around 17th - 18th, activity levels showed high activities. This result was also showen in the world. It was uncertain, although it has the possibility of an un-predicted activity. It has, of course, a possiblity of observed error.
